In Japan

My first few days in Osaka, Japan have been totally awesome. Having been in India which is rich in culture and then being in the USA which is technologically advanced and then coming to Japan which is not only rich in its culture but also much more technologically advanced than the US is very interesting. I see something new every corner. I hope to document most of my experiences here.

Few of my initial beliefs have been dismissed – I have been allocated an awesome big apartment with a room to spare(more on my apartment later) so lots of space for me.

But my belief that Japan has less food choices for vegetarians has been dismissed too- they almost have no choices ! Everything has either meat/fish/seafood/egg or is
cooked in fish broth/pork oil. Only thing I can eat outside right now is
Cheese pizza.

Thank god I bought a suitcase full of food to eat and cook(paid extra for the overweight luggage, mind you).

Off to Japan !

After living most of my life in India, then going on to live & study in the US for over a year,I am now off to live in Osaka, Japan for 3 months – working on a project for Sharp Corporation(R&D),learning to read and write Japanese and researching on Japanese design philosophy.

Things I know about Japan (or things I THINK I know about Japan) -

1. It’s the land of the rising sun, manga, anime.
2. They have very small spaces to live in.
3. They have super fast bullet trains.
4. They have less food choices for vegetarians like me.
5. Its very expensive(Thank god I am sponsored).
6. Sayoonara means “good bye” in Japanese(every Indian knows this courtesy
a very popular bollywood song(Ironically good bye is not the only word you should know if you are visiting Japan).

Things I want to find out about Japan –

1. Their design philosophy.
2. How this Asian country has managed to become a technological giant.
3. And most important – Why do they find Hello Kitty so interesting ?
(I mean she is an expressionless cat after all! )
